High School Resources

Local Supplement to N.C.H.E’s Home Schooling High School

RESOURCES FOR CLASSES:

  • Teen Learning Center – H.I.N.T.S. Moms have organized classes offered to teens and taught by home school moms. There are two sessions (fall and winter/spring) a year. This is a co-operative project and all families are expected to contribute. www.teenlearningcenter.org or email comm@teenlearningcenter.org TLC meets in the South Charlotte area.
  • Central Piedmont Community College – Students from 16-18 years old may take classes for FREE. These classes can earn the student “dual credit” in many cases…i.e. counting as high school Biology and college freshman Biology at the same time. Check on each course for its ability to be transferred, if you happen to know the college in which your student has interest. CPCC is a wonderful resource for those upper level high school courses that sometimes require special equipment or expertise to teach. Call 704 -330-6877, for “concurrent enrollment”. E-mail: Joann.Murray@cpcc.edu or Laura.Bazan@cpcc.edu.
  • UNC Charlotte – As long as the student has taken the SAT, he/she may apply to UNC Charlotte for their Escrow program. This is not the same as a concurrent program. It is for academically exceptional stu-dents interested in classes like Calculus III or Japanese IV. Students must have exhausted all other op-tions at their local high school and community college. The minimum age limit is 16. Call admissions at 704-687-2213.
  • Covenant Classical in Concord - Contact Marcia 704-792-1854 mkuhn@ctc.net. Block scheduling, 90 min. classes.  Take one or more classes.  Offered five days a week.
